Maariv reported that Nasrallah died of suffocation after hiding in an unventilated room at the headquarters, where toxic gases from the bombing leaked out.The aftermath of the strike sent shockwaves throughout the region, with many bracing for potential retaliatory actions. Hezbollah’s extensive network, deeply embedded within Lebanese society and politics, is now facing a leadership vacuum that could trigger internal power struggles or incite further instability. Meanwhile, international reactions have been mixed, with some leaders calling for restraint and others expressing cautious optimism that a major source of regional tension might be neutralized.
Hassan Nasrallah’s body was recovered on Saturday, the day after his death, and was transferred to a Beirut hospital, without showing any physical injuries.
In a scenario mentioned earlier, the assassination of Nasrallah on Saturday revealed that the operation was planned in advance, based on information built over years by the Shin Bet and Mossad.
Israeli security officials said that Mossad began planning its latest operations against Hezbollah more than a decade ago, during which it studied Hezbollah’s strengths and weaknesses, according to a report by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
The newspaper said that “the intelligence information provided to the Israeli Air Force determined the exact location of the room where Nasrallah met with senior Hezbollah leaders, as well as the depth of the hideout where they used to hold important meetings and develop plans in an attempt to repel Israeli attacks.”
The intelligence information also allowed Israeli pilots to calculate the angles at which the bombs should be struck, and the height from which they should be launched, in order to reach the part of the hideout where Nasrallah was located.
It is noteworthy that Israeli websites had published that the operation, which the Israelis called “The New Order”, was carried out while senior Hezbollah officers were at the headquarters participating in coordinating operations against Israel.
