The story of the film, which was directed and co-produced by Belisi, and is adapted from the best-selling 2008 novel Aadujeevitham, which means (goat life) in Malayalam by Benjamin, revolves around the kidnapping of two Indians from a Saudi airport by a goat and camel herd owner who has farms somewhere in the Saudi desert, as he is their sponsor to work in tending goats and camels in an area completely cut off from the world, amidst an extremely harsh and inhumane work and life environment.
The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran as Najeeb Mohammed, KR Gokul as Hakeem, Amala Paul as Saino, Najeeb’s wife, Jimmy Jean-Louis as Ibrahim Khediri, Shobha Mohan as Najeeb’s mother, Talib Balushi as the domineering and cruel Saudi sponsor, Rick Abbey as Jasser Nassar, and Akif Najim as the rich man in the Rolls Royce who will save Najeeb.
Ever since Blessy read Aadujeevitham in 2008, he wanted to make it into a film, and before buying the rights in 2009, he had cast Indian actor Prithviraj in the lead role. The following year, he bought the rights from Benjamin and began writing the screenplay. However, due to financial constraints that prevented much progress, the film’s production was halted. Plessy spent years searching for a producer, and finally found one in 2015. Sources do not mention who he is or what nationality this producer is, and there are those who hint that he is from a Gulf country, other than Saudi Arabia, which allowed the project to gain momentum. Jimmy Jean-Louis and Stephen Adams joined Plessy as co-producers. A. R. Rahman composed the original soundtrack for the film and the songs.
The scenes of the movie (Goat’s Life) begin in an Indian village where Najib, who works as a sand collector from the bottom of the river, seeks to obtain a work visa to Saudi Arabia. After efforts, both Najib and Hakim are able to buy the visa in a way arranged for them by their friend Sreekumar. Najib will leave his pregnant wife Sonia and his mother with promises to send the mortgage amount of the house he paid for the visa and that he will send them a lot of money so that they can live in luxury, and Hakim will leave his mother alone.
